February 2009. We had gone back to Pennsylvania after we signed the contract and then headed south for warmer weather. By late February we were becoming very alarmed at the lack of information coming from Ken so we drove up to the shop. The lauan siding had been installed and the insulation had been blown in but not much else had been completed.
March 7 , 2009. This is our first look in person at the motorhome.
Ken had a company come to his shop and spray on the insulation. It bonds well to the metal and lauan making the structure even more solid.
We had debated about what to use for siding. We didn't want the lauan and fiberglass sandwich which leads to delamination damage if there are any water leaks but we couldn't come up with an alternative. In retrospect we should have looked into the cost and difficulty of installation for an aluminum skin. We decided on a high grade all fiberglass polyester sheeting from Owens Corning called CTEC.
Installing the CTEC.
Back of the motorhome. This is one of the little things that we didn't catch in time. We wanted brake lights with two lights. Ken misunderstood and thought that we wanted two brake lights on each side. Oh well , no one will rear end us but they may be blinded!
Ken trimming the fiberglass.
In this picture the fiberglass is glued down on the passenger side only. The back and other side have been just fitted loose to allow access to the interior to install the hot water heater and waste tanks.
Early May 2009. At this point we had head back east to go to our niece's wedding.

How is the RV doing now in 2014? I am starting a build on a similar chassis.
ReplyDeleteSorry about not answering sooner. I just noticed your comment.
DeleteThe RV is holding up pretty good. We have to really watch the seams and caulking because it wasn't built as promised.
