All About This Site

graphics2a
I've started this site to give everyone a look at the process of having a custom motorhome built and also to provide a little help for anyone else who is considering doing this. We made plenty of mistakes!

I'm not planning on updating this but just leaving it on the internet as an informative site. I'll gladly answer any questions.  I've divided it into sections so that you don't have to wade through things that you're not interested in or wait a long time for pictures to upload. Just click on the sections on the right. You  can look at more pictures of the build and also some of our old Scotty motorhome by clicking on the slideshow which will take you to Picassa.

  1. Pretty Fascinating! I am amazed at the number of mistakes that "Ken" made, and even more so at the attempts to hide.

A suggestion for you. I am a mobile RV Tech, and unless I had the pictures that are in the blog, there are some systems that I would have great reservations servicing. Print out the pictures (professionally so they don't fade), and keep them in a binder for future use.

Interesting that you opted for no air conditioner and such. I understand the reasoning behind it though. If I may make another suggestion, add Fantastic or Ventastic powered vent covers to your roof vents (if you haven't already done so). The fans in them are capable of moving much more air in both directions. Since power is already present, installation will be a snap, and you will be able to get air circulating even during a torrential rain fall.

Speaking of which... Since you don't have an air conditioner, I encourage you to find a solution for dehumidifying the coach when it is closed up. I can usually spot a boondocker's coach without being told because the interior is cracking / peeling / deteriorating.

Great job, I wish that I had found your blog earlier though. If you don't mind, I will be passing along the link to a few of my clients whom are considering having a custom coach built for them, or building themselves.

Thanks for posting so much information!

  2. Thanks for the comments! We've considered installing a cover over our fantastic fan and perhaps adding a second one. They do seem like an excellent idea. The only thing that we worry about is breaking them on low tree limbs but I'm sure that we could remember to watch for branches.
We had our first experience with bad condensation last fall and winter when we were stuck in Washington state but we usually don't stay completely closed up for long periods of time. Ideally we want to be in 70-80 degree weather. It doesn't always work but we try!
Saving the pictures is a good idea. They have already been helpful for repair work. I'm so glad that we took pictures of the construction.
I took a peek at your blog. It looks interesting! I'll have to read the rest of it!
